What is a dieline and do you need one?
A dieline is the flat plan of your box. Here is what it shows and where to get one.
A dieline is the flat outline of a box that shows where it is cut and where it folds. You place your artwork on it so the print lines up with every panel. Without one, a design cannot be placed correctly.
What a dieline shows
- Cut lines, where the board is cut out.
- Fold or crease lines.
- Glue flaps and tabs.
- Panel names such as front, back, top and bottom.
- Bleed and safe area guides.
Do you need to make one?
No. For every standard size we send a dieline in PDF or vector format that you can open in Illustrator, Affinity, Canva or similar. For a custom size, our team draws one for you.
How to use it
Place the dieline on its own layer. Put your artwork on layers below it. Extend backgrounds to the bleed line. Keep the dieline layer hidden when exporting, unless we have asked otherwise.
Check the orientation
Look at which way text will read once the box is folded. Rotate text on side panels so it reads upright when the box is in its normal position.
